Sightseeing in Galapagar (1)
We were so excited about Twinny’s visit and at last he came. We immediately realised that he must have been very happy in England because he brought the rain and the fog with him as a present – we needed it so much! One of the first things we did with him after introducing him to everybody at school was showing him Galapagar. So out we went with Twinny and E2C class in the rain and the fog and everybody had a great time.

This is the statue of Jacinto Benavente. He was a writer who was born in 1866 and died in 1954. He is a celebrity in Galapagar because he was a very important person to us. We have a theatre and a school with his name. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1922. The statue is in front of the church, in the centre of the town, in one of the three squares in Galapagar. Everybody knows Jacinto Benavente.

Twinny visits the health centre with Sergio and Alex. We are smiling and happy because Twinny is completely recovered from his injuries. Near the health centre there is a little playground. There is a slide, a swing and a big castle. The weather isn´t very good, but the day with Twinny was fantastic.

Alejandro and Sergio

In this photograph we are with Twinny in front of Jacinto Benavente Theatre, the only theatre in our small town. The theatre was built in the 20th century. At the entrance of the building there is a parking lot. In the building we can find the theatre, a library, a school of modern arts and a school of dance and music.

Lucas and Raúl

In this picture appear Alejandro Ramos, Óscar and Twinny. We are at the town sports centre. It´s a municipal place with modern sports facilities. There are two simming pools: one indoor and one outdoor, two football pitches, four tennis courts, four paddle tennis courts, one five-a-side football pitch, where you can play basketball and volleyball too. There is a littke gym. In a few months we´ll have an indoor cycle track too.

Sightseeing in Galapagar (2)

The Cemetery is near Jacinto Benavente School and the sports centre.
This is where the people who die are buried and the people who remember them bring them flowers.
It’s an important place because in 1954 the playwright Jacinto Benavente was buried here.
In the photo Lucía and Amaya are at the entrance ….they are very frightened!!!!

Amaya and Lucía

Jesús and Carlos are in front of the church, which is under reconstruction at this moment.

In this photo, we are in front of the Town Hall with Twinny. It was built in18th century. It was built of stone. The Town Hall has been used for multiple purposes. It’s been a school and a jail. It is beautiful. The Mayor and the town councilors work here. They meet in the building, and try to improve things in the town. In front of the Town Hall thereis a fountain, and every four years, the new Mayor sends some experimented people to reform it, and when they finish, it is even more beautiful than before.

Sara and Fernando

In this photo there are two girls – Sandra and María- and Twinny. They are in front of Queen Sofia Community Centre. It was built in 1982. It’s used as a municipal council with Education and Social Services among others. There are also activities for children, women and the elderly.
Although it was raining that day, the girls were very happy with our guest.

Sandra and María.

This is the main square (the Town Hall Square). It is surrounded by the church, the Community Centre, the Town Hall and several shops and houses. In the centre, apart from E2C class, there is a fountain that has been rebuilt recently, as well as the pavement. This is the meeting point where we all teenagers meet on Friday afternoons. The statue of Jacinto Benavente is also in this square.

Twinny in our school labs

Our friend Twinny wanted to see our school labs, so we took him to some of them. Here you can see him attending lessons of Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Technology together with other students who were really happy to have such a lovely classmate.

The teachers were very pleased with Twinny too because he paid a lot of attention. He was a bit surprised at the gadgets and crafts made by younger pupils with all sorts of tools during the Technology lesson. And he got really excited to hear the students of Envionmental Sciences discuss the latest news about climate change. Then we went to the Globe Program computer room with the students that had been to Santiago and wanted to see their report on Twinny's Journey blog!

Our school canteen

María Ángeles and Javier run our school canteen. During the break time, from 11:10 to 11:40 some pupils go to the canteen and buy sweets, snacks, drinks, sandwiches...etc
Javier is our school caretaker too. He can repair all sorts of things, from the central heating to windows or hi-fi systems. And he is a great cook too.
We don't usually have lunch at school because lessons finish at 2:20, but sometimes he cooks lunch for tecjers and students. In the pictures you can see a typical Spanish dish, 'Spanish omelette'. The puplis here love omelette 'bocadillos' (a baguette type of bread).

Pedro and Silvia

Here are Pedro and Silvia with Twinny. They work as secretaries and they take care of all the paperwork: application forms, certificates, legal documents and so on.
Silvia is very happy because she is expecting a baby!
